From Farm to Table: Erişmiş Logistics

Worth over 40 billion dollars in Turkey, the logistics and transport sector makes a substantial contribution to the national economy. Agricultural transport, one part of that sector, holds a place that is both strategic and social. This logistics model matters for producers and suppliers reaching potential markets, and it also contributes indirectly to preserving the shelf life and quality of produce — reducing food waste and helping people reach quality goods. We spoke with a leading figure in agricultural transport. Ahmet Erişmiş, founder of Erişmiş Logistics, joined Work in Life.

Erişmiş Logistics was founded in Adana in 2005 to provide domestic transport services for agricultural goods. From farm to table

Ahmet Erişmiş, founder of Erişmiş Logistics, describes agricultural transport as a kind of "farm to table" haulage. "In agricultural transport the whole process is built around delivering produce to the consumer with its freshness and quality intact. Production and stocks in global agricultural markets are steadily declining, and that affects the transport and logistics sector too. Logistics companies are developing new strategies in response," he said.

"Demand for animal feed raw materials in Turkey rises with the population every year. Because domestic production cannot meet that rising demand for certain products, the need for imported feed raw materials — soybeans, soybean meal, maize, sunflower seed, sunflower meal and rapeseed — is met through imports. That makes our ports vital for moving, storing and bringing those goods into production. This is where we come in. We hold goods handled at the ports in our warehouses and dispatch them to our partners across the country. We carry out the port service procurement, storage and transport work in the İskenderun, Mersin and Ceyhan area."
